Track and Field Season Review The 2026 athletics season was one of determination, growth, and resilience for the Kellits High School Track and Field Team. Throughout the season, the athletes demonstrated unwavering commitment and continuously improved their performances as they prepared for Jamaica's premier secondary school athletics competition—the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys' and Girls' Athletics Championships. To prepare for the championships, the team participated in five major preparatory meets: Tyser Mills Development Meet– G.C. Foster College Camperdown Classics– Jamaica College Central Championships– G.C. Foster College S.W. Isaac Henry Invitational Meet – National Stadium Coaches' Last Chance Development Meet – Jamaica College These competitions provided valuable opportunities for athletes to gain competitive experience, improve their performances, and assess their readiness for the championship season. The dedication shown by the athletes was evident, as every member of the team recorded improvements in their performances throughout the season. At the Central Championships, Kellits High School delivered a commendable performance, finishing 20th out of the 30 schools that earned points on the scoreboard, with a total of 7 points. For the 2026 season, Kellits High School proudly fielded a complete male team, with 14 athletes qualifying to compete at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys' and Girls' Athletics Championships. The team competed in the following events: * 100 Metres * 200 Metres * 800 Metres * 1500 Metres * 5000 Metres * 2000 Metres Steeplechase * 4 × 400 Metre Relay * 1600 Metre Medley Relay One of the season's most notable achievements came from Janeil Walters, who recorded a personal best of 10.78 seconds in the 100 metres at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys' and Girls' Athletics Championships. Achieving a personal best on Jamaica's biggest secondary school athletics stage is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and ability to perform under pressure. He is also the fastest 100m athlete Kellits High school has ever produced. The team's greatest achievement came at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys' and Girls' Athletics Championships, where two Kellits High School athletes qualified for the final of the 2000 Metres Steeplechase. The athletes finished 8th and 9th, with the eighth-place finish earning the school's only championship point. That single point proved significant, propelling Kellits High School to an overall finish of 38th out of 99 male schools competing at the championships. The ninth-place finish was particularly inspiring, as the athlete courageously recovered after falling twice during the race, displaying remarkable resilience and determination. The relay teams also demonstrated significant progress throughout the season. Both the 1600 Metre Medley Relay and the 4 × 400 Metre Relay recorded improved performances, reducing their times considerably despite the team's relatively late start to the athletics season. Although the season produced only one championship point, the results tell a much greater story. Every athlete showed measurable improvement, personal bests were achieved, finalists were produced, and the team competed with pride across multiple disciplines. The commitment, perseverance, and sportsmanship displayed by the athletes and coaching staff have laid a solid foundation for continued success in future seasons.
